HOW TO WRITE AN IRRESISTIBLE CALL TO ACTION
Before we dive into Day 3, let’s recap what we’ve done so far in the 5 Day Website Marketing Challenge:
- We got into the mind and body of our ideal client.
- We stopped focusing on ourselves and getting found.
- We started focusing on showing up where our ideal client is likely to be paying attention.
- We made a DECISION about where to focus our marketing efforts.
You’ll take action on that decision after we’ve built our foundation.
By the way, you can’t make a wrong decision.
Your ideal client is everywhere.
You just have to get their attention by using words that resonate with them.
And that’s what we’re learning today.
So if you’ve taken my Free 5 Day Website Challenge…
…you may recall that I have a pretty strong opinion on the point of building a website in the first place.
The point of a website is NOT to:
- brand yourself.
- establish yourself as an expert.
- market or sell your products and services.
(Even though a website helps with all of those).
The sole purpose of building a website is to build your email list.
All roads lead to your email list.
Why?
If you don’t get an email address from your website visitors, you have no way to…
- Invite them back to your site.
- Let them know about new content you’ve created to help them.
- Let them know how they can work with you on a deeper level.
You’re leaving it all up to chance.
And chances are, they’ve moved on to the next shiny object.
Which is totally fine – if you have their email address.
So if all roads lead to your email list…
We gotta compel people to sign up!
And saying…
“Join my newsletter list”
“Subscribe for updates”
“Get my 10 best marketing tips”
is NOT compelling.
If you have any variation of those as your “call-to-action” to join your email list…
…that’s one reason why your email list is not growing (even if you are getting traffic).
So…
In the Free 5 Day Website Challenge, I strongly encourage you to create a freebie.
To give away valuable information in exchange for an email address.
And while the content of your freebie is important…
…how you describe the freebie on your website is even more important.
Which brings me to today’s action step:
Write an irresistible call to action for your freebie.
Here’s how:
Pull out the exercise you did on Day 1 & review the following questions:
- I wish I could wave a magic wand and then I’d feel ___________.
- If I didn’t have this problem, I’d be able to ________________.
The answers to those questions are the secret sauce to writing a compelling call to action for your freebie.
Those are the RESULTS your ideal client is searching for.
Let’s take my Free 5 Day Website Challenge, for example.
My ideal client wants to wave a magic wand and have all the steps laid out for them to DIY their website so that they save time, money and feel confident and capable.
If they didn’t have the problem of not having a website and feeling confused about what to do and overwhelmed with all the choices, they’d be able to get on with getting clients and making money.
So the RESULT I can deliver is to help my ideal client:
“Build a website in just 5 days even if you’re not techie so that you can stop feeling overwhelmed and start booking clients.”
Here’s the formula:
(Result you deliver) even if (thing that’s holding them back) so that you can stop (thing they’re tired of) and start (thing they really want).
Now write your own.
Then hit reply and tell me your irresistible call to action.
Here’s where you might get stuck:
- You don’t have a freebie yet. Great! This exercise will help you figure out what to create. Work backwards from the results they are looking for.
- You do lots of different things for different people. This may not be the answer you want to hear, but you gotta pick one person to talk to. You can have different freebies for different results, but I still suggest FOCUSING on one person/result at a time.
And tomorrow, I’ll give you a formula for writing your homepage.
