The most successful affiliate sales will come from promoting the 5 Day Website Challenge and freebies with the heart of a friend and teacher (not a marketer!)
Here are some ideas for promoting:
…and your experience and results with taking action on my paid programs and freebies!
Tell your story. Why did you start your business or blog? Who do you want to help? What steps did you take to figure out what you needed to do to get it off the ground?
How did you find out about the 5 Day Website Challenge?
What were your thoughts going into it? How did you feel about your ability to do it yourself? How did your mindset about your ability to do it yourself change during the 5 Day Website Challenge?
How did you make time for all of the lessons? How long did it take you to complete it? What was the best part? What was the most challenging part? How do you feel now that you’ve completed it?
What would you say to someone who is trying to figure out how to get started?
Be sure to disclose that you’re an affiliate – you can see how I do that on my resources page here.
Fill in the blanks and make it sound like you!
“Hey NAME,
As you (may or may not) know, I started a blog/website/company called BLANK where I show BLANK how to BLANK so that they can BLANK.
I’ve got a free BLANK that helps people overcome BLANK, which is available here (insert link to your website).
Can I ask a quick favor: will you forward this email on to anyone you know who might find this resource helpful?
One more thing – I actually built my website myself through a free online course called the 5 Day Website Challenge – I wrote a blog post all about the experience here (link to the blog post you wrote in step #1). If you or anyone you know is planning to start a blog or build a website, definitely check it out here.
Thanks for passing my new website along!”
On your own profiles: You can use your affiliate link when you share on your own Facebook profile, business page, Twitter account, Instagram (use Linktree to create a list of links that you can add to your Insta profile, including your affiliate link) and Pinterest. Always disclose by using #affiliate or (affiliate) when you post a direct affiliate link to the 5 Day Website Challenge.
Use the graphics in the Graphics & Swipe Copy section to Pin and Instagram and post and tweet!!
In Facebook Groups or in comments:
If you share your experience with the 5 Day Challenge on social media in response to posts about website frustration, needing help, not knowing where to start, needing advice on which platform to choose, or being abandoned by their web developer and desperate – share a link to your BLOG POST that includes your affiliate link to the 5 Day Website Challenge.
Say something like “Check out Shannon Mattern’s 5 Day Website Challenge – it will definitely help you with this – you can read more about my experience and find a link to it here.” Be sure to read the rules of the group before posting any links!!!!
And a proud one! Because when we find courses, products and services that help others, we’re doing them a disservice not to share them.
My philosophy with everything I recommend to my community is that I will promote products and services that I’ve purchased and gotten results – and in rare cases, I will promote something that I haven’t personally purchased but I trust the people and value of the program because of my relationship with them – and in that case I always disclose that information.
Thank you for trusting me enough to share my program with your friends, colleagues and networks – I appreciate you!

FTC Compliance
The Federal Trade Commission requires that affiliates disclose to their readers when they endorse a product and have a “material connection” to the seller of that product. These rules apply to any online review, article or endorsement that includes our affiliate link and encourages visitors to purchase our product. Disclosures are not required for links that are clearly advertisements (such as banner ads in your blog’s sidebar). By participating in our affiliate program, all affiliates must agree to comply with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR § 255.5, and review and follow the suggestions outlined in their guide on How to Make Effective Disclosures in Digital Advertising. Every time you link to www.wp-bff.com in an article using your affiliate link, you must disclose the nature of your relationship with our company. Furthermore, such disclosures must be made clearly, frequently and conspicuously. Such disclosures ensure that readers can formulate an informed opinion about the information you provide by understanding the possible influence your material connection with our company might have on your endorsement of our products. Those affiliates who do not comply with the FTC guidelines will be subject to account termination and commission reversal.
Affiliate Rules For Appropriate Disclosure
1. Linking In Articles: When using our affiliate link in an article, you must display a clear disclosure about the nature of your affiliate links and the material connection you have with our company. These disclosures must appear on the same page where the links appear, and they must be clear, conspicuous, and require no additional user interaction to read (such as clicking a link, scrolling or hovering over an element). According to the FTC: “Putting disclosures in obscure places – for example, buried on an ABOUT US or GENERAL INFO page, behind a poorly labeled hyperlink or in a terms of service agreement – isn’t good enough. The average person who visits your site must be able to notice your disclosure, read it and understand it.” All disclosures should appear in full, either before or in close proximity to the affiliate link itself.
2. Linking On Social Networks : When using our affiliate links on social networks, you must also display a clear disclosure about the nature of the links and the material connection you have with our company. In the form of social media posts, these disclosures must be part of the post that contains the affiliate link.
Affiliate Rules For Legitimate Endorsements
To put things simply: When you make an endorsement, the endorsement must be truthful. You cannot lie to encourage your visitors to purchase our product, nor can you fabricate evidence or experiences to entire visitors to purchase our product. For a complete and detailed list of rules and guidelines from the FTC, please refer to the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION 16 CFR Part 255. At the most basic level, you should consider and adhere to the following rules:
1. You can’t talk about your experience with a product if you haven’t tried it. Creating a fake positive review of a product for the sole purpose of encouraging visitors to purchase our products is not allowed. Your review of a product must be 100% truthful and legitimate.
2. If you were paid to try a product and you thought it was terrible, you can’t say it’s terrific.
3. You can’t make claims about a product that would require proof you don’t have. For example, you can’t say that our product is “guaranteed to increase your ranking in Google” if there is no evidence to support that claim. You also could not write a fake testimonial or lie about your own experience with our product and the positive benefits you have experience from using the products.
