00:09:52 Wendy Coop: That was such a great book! Thank you, Laura, for sending it to me!
00:09:52 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: I started to listen to Chillpreneur yesterday, too! For the second time, of course.
00:10:07 Erica Nash: Seriously so good. Such a mindset shift.

00:10:23 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: Yeah, Dubsado is on my list, too.
00:10:32 Wendy Coop: Is anyone using Honeybook?
00:11:33 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: Win: I found an easy to implement content strategy for social media and I’m posting micro-blogs on LinkedIn. Today was my second day and I have over 6.000 views already!
00:11:36 erika: @Wendy, I tried HoneyBook but it wasn’t as customizable as I wanted.
00:11:40 Barb at Infinity Brand Design: I didn’t like Honeybook from a client perspective @Wendy, so I didn’t mess with it.
00:11:43 Parisa: I used to @Wendy but moved to Dubsado a while ago
00:11:58 Kim: Love YNAB! I’m a big YNAB dork if anyone needs help
00:12:11 Wendy Coop: Thanks, Parisa! I’m just looking at a good intro to get everything set up.

00:12:48 Wendy Coop: @Erika – thank you for letting me know!
00:13:35 Wendy Coop: @Mariela – that is amazing! Please share your magic!
00:13:54 Wendy Coop: @Barb – sounds like I should be using Dubsado then!
00:13:59 Barb at Infinity Brand Design: Oh! Win! I have 2 discovery calls today! 1 in 14 mins (so I’ll have to hop off early)
00:14:11 Valicia France: Amazing @mariela
00:16:43 Erica Nash: That is so awesome!
00:17:29 Wendy Coop: Also a win: I have an appointment with a literary agent at the end of the month and I’m about to submit my one-sheet proposal!
00:17:55 erika: Agh! I forgot I have another win. I managed to draft a month of Instagram posts and scheduled a week of them.
00:18:03 Erica Nash: @Wendy, how awesome!! Congrats
00:18:06 Wendy Coop: @Erika – woo hoo!
00:18:10 Wendy Coop: Thanks Erica!
00:18:18 Erica Nash: @erika, that’s definitely a win
00:18:51 Leslie Zemenek: Win – I started working on my own web site. Finally.
00:19:06 Wendy Coop: @Leslie – that’s how you get stuff moving!
00:19:30 Wendy T.: Awesome, Leslie! That’s the next step for me.
00:22:07 Lori Reeves: @Barb And make sure it’s not so low that there’s no way someone could make enough money if you REALLY want them to work for you.
00:23:42 Lori Reeves: You may need to restructure your pricing so you can offer your “closer” more and you’ll still make enough. It may need to be much more than 10% so you have someone who will put the time in and it will be worth it to you.
00:24:08 Parisa: Have you got a quote yet @Barb?
00:24:39 Wendy Coop: I’m definitely jacking up my prices!
00:24:59 Erica Nash: DDT says pricing is a made up number, so choose what you want 😂
00:25:56 Wendy Coop: I remember when I first saw $5k as my top price and it freaked me out. Now it feels low for what I’m going to offer.
00:30:12 Wendy T.: Question: As a new designer, where can I find inspiration for different layouts/sections of websites? How can I use inspiration without “stealing” people’s ideas? How can I ethically use themes (changing them up enough, etc.)?
00:30:39 Erica Nash: I definitely had a shift when I realized that I needed to be willing to pay those higher prices if I wanted clients to be willing to pay those prices with me.
00:31:04 Parisa: Oooo good question
00:31:20 Lori Reeves: Wendy T have you ever read “Steal Like an Artist”?
00:31:28 Erica Nash: YES
00:31:31 Wendy T.: I have. Loved that book.
00:31:44 erika: I love looking at Behance
00:32:10 Lori Reeves: Look through several sites. Make notes about what you like and combine.
00:32:37 erika: I also like looking through pay templates on sites like Creative Market to see what functionality they have that I like
00:32:41 Lori Reeves: Different elements from different sites put together NEVER looks like you’ve copied someone else’s site.
00:32:50 Erica Nash: So much of what is out there is similar. You’ll probably find that the sites you like have a lot of the same features.
00:33:38 Lori Reeves: The imagery and branding you use makes a BIG difference, even in a template.
00:33:55 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: I follow the Storybrand method and found this today: https://www.sbwebsiteexamples.com/
00:34:20 Lori Reeves: Remember: There are NO new ideas. Everything out there contains pieces of other things that already exist.
00:34:24 Wendy T.: That makes sense. So look for pieces/parts that work with my intended goal for the site and go from there. Thank you, everyone!!
00:35:16 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: https://knapsackcreative.com/work
00:35:43 Leslie Zemenek: There is a percentage. When the copyright office looks at cases where someone claims copyright infringement, they have a percentage.
00:37:00 Lori Reeves: I have a hard time believing that you could get in trouble for using a LAYOUT if you’re not copying images or text. Lots of websites use a very similar layout. But they can’t use the same text and images. THAT’S what is considered copying (I would imagine – I’m NO lawyer!).
00:37:21 Erica Nash: It might take a lot of time to develop from scratch up front, but if you’re in litigation, you’ll be really short on time and money.
00:38:07 Barb Henry: Agree, Lori. Layouts today are all pretty much the same. Images, font, colors can make any design unique.
00:39:06 Leslie Zemenek: It kinds of needs to be obvious for someone to make a fuss.
00:41:22 Lori Reeves: If you buy it, there could be code (just as Shannon said) that is behind the scenes that “gives it away” that you bought and resold.
00:42:05 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: I would recreate the parts I like with Divi or Elementor, never just use the element
00:44:26 Ruha Thurairatnam: At what point during our 12 months here do you expect most WDA-ers to be ready to implement the scale module?
00:45:18 Kim: Yesss I’m going to be ready for it this time!
00:45:48 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: Yay, I look forward to the new directory!
00:48:17 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: I just saw that we have a WDA spotify playlist!!
00:48:30 Lori Reeves: Yes we do, Mariela, and it’s JAMMIN!!
00:50:30 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: How do you know if you should create a course or a membership? Memberships are all the rage right now, it makes me a little insecure…
00:53:15 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: All right, thanks.
00:54:36 Shannon Mattern: Nacondra Moran
00:54:43 Wendy Coop: Gotta hop on another call. See you all in the group!
00:54:50 Shannon Mattern: Girija Patel
00:55:06 Shannon Mattern: Autumn Witt Boyd
00:55:10 Lori Reeves: I have to run to another meeting, too! Have a great week friends!
00:55:37 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: Do you mean policies?
00:55:47 Mariela Cabezas | Web Designer – soulbusinessdesign.com/week: Termageddon does also policies for Canada
00:56:15 Valicia France: bye!
